You can put a company logo on a hi-vis safety vest and keep it ANSI compliant, as long as two things hold: the logo never covers or interrupts the retroreflective tape, and the garment still carries its class's minimum fluorescent background material with the logo on it. The simplest way to get both is to order custom safety vests with your logo from the manufacturer, which knows exactly where the tape runs on each style and how much background it has.
Kiwi prints custom logos on any Kiwi hi-vis gear. The minimum is 12 items. Lead time is 2 to 3 weeks, and every order gets a proof for your approval before production starts.
Can you put a logo on an ANSI safety vest?
Yes. ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 doesn't ban logos, and the standard has no single logo size limit you can quote. What it does set is a minimum area of fluorescent background material and retroreflective material for each class. For Type R garments, the numbers are:
- Class 2: 775 square inches of background material and 201 square inches of retroreflective material.
- Class 3: 1,240 square inches of background material and 310 square inches of retroreflective material.
Fabric covered by a logo can't be counted as fluorescent background, so every logo spends some background. A chest logo spends a little. A full-back print on a style built close to its minimum can spend enough to drop the garment out of its class. That's why there's no universal size answer. It depends on the style.
The tape has no margin to spend. A logo printed across a reflective band, or one that splits it, blocks the material a driver sees at night.
Where a logo can go on a hi-vis vest
Logos go on fluorescent background fabric, clear of the tape. On most styles that leaves the front chest, on the panel beside or above the tape, and the back, wherever the tape layout leaves open fabric. Sleeved Class 3 garments may also have room on the sleeve.
Where a logo never goes: across a horizontal band, over tape that runs up and over the shoulders, or across a seam where it would cover trim. Tape layouts differ between a dual band vest, a contrast trimmed vest and a two tone shirt, so the right spot on one style may be the wrong spot on another. The proof shows your logo on the exact style you picked before anything is printed.
Why order custom safety vests through the manufacturer
Conformance to ANSI/ISEA 107 is declared by the manufacturer. No third-party body approves garments on ANSI's behalf. The manufacturer's declaration covers the garment as it was made.
When someone else decorates the vest afterward, that declaration doesn't automatically stretch to cover the new artwork. A decorator without the manufacturer's layout can't tell how much background a style carries beyond its minimum, or exactly where the tape needs to stay clear. Ordering through the manufacturer, or through a decorator working with the manufacturer, keeps the rating on solid ground.
It's also simpler to manage. One supplier handles the garments, the logo and the proof. When a new hire starts in March, there's one place to call for a matching vest.
How bulk custom hi-vis orders work at Kiwi
- Pick the gear. Any Kiwi hi-vis can take a logo, from Class 2 vests, shirts and polos to the sleeved vests, shirts and jackets in the Class 3 collection.
- Send a quote request. Use the request a quote form with your logo file, placement, styles and quantities by size.
- Approve the proof. Kiwi sends a proof showing the logo on your garment. Production starts only after you approve it.
- Production and shipping. Lead time is 2 to 3 weeks. Mixed styles, sizes and colors ship together, so the flaggers' Class 3 shirts and the yard crew's Class 2 vests arrive in one shipment.
- Reorder. Your logo artwork and order specs stay on file, and the next order picks up where the last one left off.
A logo doesn't change what a garment is. Our hoodies are background material only, and our black reflector vest is reflectors only. Neither is a rated class with or without your logo, so keep them for areas where no class is required. Our current hi-vis is also marked not flame resistant, logo or no logo, so it doesn't belong where FR or arc-rated clothing is required.
What to decide before you order
| Decision | What to know | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Class | Class 2 or Class 3, set by your hazard assessment and any MUTCD or contract requirement | A logo can't fix the wrong class. Pick the class first. |
| Style | Vest, short sleeve vest, long or short sleeve shirt, polo, jacket or hoodie | Each style has its own tape layout and its own open fabric for a logo. |
| Color | Vests are neon. Shirts, polos and hoodies come in neon and orange. | Your logo colors need to read clearly against the background. |
| Logo placement | Front chest, back, or sleeve where the style allows, always clear of the tape | Confirmed on the proof before production. |
| Quantities by size | Minimum 12 items. Mixed sizes, styles and colors ship together. | Sizing everyone up front avoids a short reorder later. |
| Deadline | Lead time is 2 to 3 weeks | Count back from the day the crew needs the gear, and leave time to approve the proof. |
| Reorders | Artwork and order specs are kept on file | New hires and replacements match the first batch. |
What to send with your quote request
A complete request gets a faster, more accurate quote. Collect sizes with the size guide before you count, then send:
- Your logo file, in the best quality you have. A vector file from your designer is ideal if one exists.
- Where the logo goes: front chest, back, or both.
- The style and class for each group of workers.
- Quantities by size for each style.
- Color, for styles that come in neon and orange.
- The date the crew needs the gear in hand.
Not sure which class each group needs? Settle that first with our guide to which hi-vis class your crew needs, then build the order around it.
Consider this general guidance, not legal advice. The class your crew wears is set by your hazard assessment and any road or contract requirement, and that decision comes before the logo.
Frequently asked questions
Does adding a logo void ANSI compliance on a safety vest?
Not when it's done right. The logo has to stay off the reflective tape, and the garment has to keep at least its class's minimum background area. Ordering through the manufacturer is the simplest way to get both, since the manufacturer declares conformance and knows each style's layout.
What is the minimum order for custom logo safety vests?
At Kiwi, the minimum is 12 items. Mixed styles, sizes and colors ship together, so one order can cover a whole crew.
How long do custom logo safety vests take?
Kiwi's lead time is 2 to 3 weeks. You approve a proof before production starts, so build that approval time into your deadline.
Can I put my logo on hi-vis shirts and jackets, not just vests?
Yes. Kiwi prints logos on any of its hi-vis gear, including rated shirts, polos and jackets. The same rules apply: clear of the tape, with enough background left for the class.
How big can a logo be on a hi-vis vest?
The standard gives no single number. The limit depends on how much background a style carries beyond its class minimum, and the logo can never touch the tape. Your proof shows the logo placement on the style you chose before anything is printed.
